Senior Tourism Manager

Specific accountabilities:The primary function of this position is to generate tourism traffic to the Outlet Collection at Niagara and Vaughan Mills, thus stimulating tenant sales, and to build and maintain the popularity of Ivanhoé Cambridge as a premier retail and entertainment destination for the tourist market through active representation and participation within the travel trade. Specific responsibilities include:


  • Working closely with Marketing,  to develop and implement destination marketing plans, as required;
  • Increase accessibility and sharing of tourism research, quality assurance programs, performance indicators, business metrics and best practices that support program enhancement and viability;
  • Plan new research-based advertising strategies for current and subsequent years that will increase tourism market share;
  • Working closely with the Development department, prioritize provincial assets that yield high tourism demand;
  • Gather tourism statistics and research in order to contribute to the Leasing Kit & to the Leasing Department, to assist in retailer acquisition;
  • Consider advertising/promotional options (online and print) to raise the profile of the Outlet portfolio in B2B Travel Trade media;
  • Develop strong relationships with retailers to actively promote participation in retailer-driven initiatives;
  • Leverage new technologies and trade channels with the capacity to engage consumers before they leave home;
  • Drive the quality of the visitor experience, providing a consistent standard of facilities, services and welcome that meets the needs of all visitors within the Outlet portfolio;
  • Design, develop and conduct familiarization tours for media, event planning, and tour operators;
  • Raise the profile of Ivanhoé Cambridge by attending meetings, seminars, conventions, and workshops to further knowledge, stay informed of the changes in the tourism industry, and exchange information;
  • Develop content for project specific Travel Trade Press Releases;
  • Attend construction meetings, as required, to ensure tourist specific requirements are met;
  • Prioritize provincial assets that yield high tourism demand;
  • Travel, as required.
Key requirements
  •  College Diploma in Tourism or Hospitality is a must;
  • A minimum of 5 – 10 years’ work experience within the tourism or hospitality industry is required;
  • Must have established networking relationships specific to tourism;
  • Must possess strong relationship building techniques;
  • Proven sales/negotiating skills;
  • Demonstrated ability of strong verbal and written communication skills are essential;
  • Excellent public speaking/presentation skills;
  • Strong computer skills in Word, Excel and PowerPoint;
  • Proven ability to work within a team-oriented and collaborative environment.
