Specific accountabilities:
Reporting to the Vice-President, Internal Audit, the candidate leads and conducts audits, analyses and assessments of business processes, as well as financial and operational activities of Ivanhoé-Cambridge and Otéra Capital which provide value added recommendations to reduce adverse risks and increase operational effectiveness. The candidate works in collaboration with management, subsidiaries’ management as well as investment partners.
  •  Establish the audit objectives and test program in compliance with the overall objectives set forth in the annual audit plan or ad hoc mandates for Ivanhoé-Cambridge and Otéra Capital as well as their subsidiaries, partners and platforms;
  • Identify and propose resourcing, staffing and time budget, for mandates allocated and, when audit lead, manage and evaluate assigned mandate resources as well as supervise external experts when retained;
  • Monitor and report on mandate progress and define priorities so as to adhere to established budget by identifying problems that may cause delays;
  • Analyze business processes and/or activities to identify their risks and controls and assess their adequacy, effectiveness and efficiency;
  • Determine the appropriate test program to validate the existence and compliance to identified controls;
  • Lead report writing on work performed, conclusions and areas for improvement;
  • Provide value added recommendations based on audit findings;
  • Communicate and validate with audited business units audit findings, recommendations and areas for improvement;
  • Where required, assist the audited business units in the development of their action plans and provide coordination when other business units are impacted;
  • Perform analyses and investigations upon the request of the Vice-President;
  • Assist or coordinate assigned audit mandates with the external auditor;
  • Perform follow up on the implementation of audit recommendations pertaining to prior internal audits and external audit internal control memorandums;
  • Assist in the development, improvement and implementation of internal audit standards and methodology in order to enhance productivity, quality, and efficiency of Ivanhoé-Cambridge’s Internal Audit function, in compliance with professional standards;
  • Participate in the development of the annual audit plans;
  • Provide expertise in consulting projects and/or other special projects
  • Assist the Vice-President in her administrative duties, such as the quarterly reporting to Ivanhoé-Cambridge’s and Otéra Capital’s Audit Committees as well as the Caisse’s Vice-President, Internal Audit;
  • Communicate effectively with others and maintain constructive relationships with business units;
  • Perform all other duties assigned by the Vice-President.
Key requirements
  •  Undergraduate degree in Accounting or Finance;
  • Chartered Accountant (CA) designation or equivalent experience;
  • Minimum of 5 to 10 years experience in audit, finance or accounting, preferably in real estate and commercial real estate financing at financial institutions and international real estate companies, or equivalent experience;
  • Excellent knowledge of and above-average writing skills in French;
  • Excellent knowledge of and good writing skills in English;
  • Ability to analyze and synthesize major components of an issue and make practical, business-oriented recommendations;
  • Team player;
  • Knowledge of real estate or commercial real estate financing products and their associated risks (operational and asset under management), an asset;
  • Knowledge of financial institutions or fund mangement, an asset;
  • Availability for Canadian and international travel between 25% and 35%.
