Building Services Technician - Centropolis

Specific accountabilities:
The candidate will have to ensure that maintenance & architectural correctives programs are rigorously maintained in order to meet with the building' required high standards. Candidate will resort to external assistance for duties that are beyond the building services technician scope of work or expertise.   To provide support to Management Staff in the supervision of the various onsite contract service providers and to ensure contractors are following all security rules of the building. Closely collaborates with internal services, such as Building & Development Services.  
  • Assist in budget proceedings;
  • Assist the Operations Supervisor in daily operations;
  • Supervise in house contracts related to specific tasks (audio visual, extermination, window cleaning, etc.);
  • Responding to building' service request as well as tenants & customers requests;
  • Collaborate with the Operations Supervisor to obtain quotes for building repairs and ensure work completion;
  • Strongly encourage safe use of tools & building equipments;
  • Maintain stocks and inventory updates regularly;
  • Monitor and control various building systems;
  • Maintain and repair hinge,  lock, doors mechanism;
  • Carry out plastering and painting work in common areas, repair floor and ceramic tiles and carry out minor carpentry and/or cabinetry work;
  • Repair plumbing equipment and ensure the maintenance and/or minor repair of the centre’s lighting and electrical equipment (replace light bulbs and ballasts);
  • Ensure order & cleanliness in the maintenance & janitorial departments:
  • Carry out exterior maintenance and make minor repairs to the building;  
  • Upgrade equipment and perform general maintenance tasks, when needed;
  • Supervise and collaborate on special events and various projects, according to schedules;
  • Supervise work done by contractors and report any discrepancies;
  • Perform an extensive building inspection and produce inspection reports;
  • Participate in the emergency response program and become very familiar with it;
  • Support the urban centre’s management team  in the absence of managers;
  • Accomplish urgent unforeseen tasks on call and/or outside regular business hours when projects must be completed;
  • Be available on weekends to answer emergency calls;  
  • Ensure collaboration between the various departments;
  • Supervise and monitor heating, ventilation, air-conditioning systems such as plans for office buildings.    


Key requirements 

  • College diploma in Building System Engineering Technology or equivalent experience;
  • Minimum of  3 to 5 years' related experience, ideally in a urban centre or office building;
  • Knowledge in the operation and control of heating, ventilation and air-conditioning systems;
  • Initiative, ability to multitask and resolve problems independently and carry out duties with minimal supervision;
  • Demonstrated mechanical aptitude;
  • Team player with interpersonal and customer service skills;
  • Computer knowledge;
  • Capacity to read & interpret architectural & mechanical plans;
  • Valid Class 5 driver's license (local travelling may be required);
  • Bilingual.
