Building Services Technician - Centropolis

Specific accountabilities:


The candidate will have to maintain a standard of preventative maintenance and corrective programs to ensure that the urban center is in an excellent state of repair at all times and also to recommend the assistance of outside forces for any duties that are beyond the Building Services Technician scope of work or expertise.  To provide support to Management Staff in the supervision of the various onsite contract service providers and to ensure contractors are following all safety practices.


  • Provide preventative/corrective maintenance on building equipment and related systems;
  • Responding to tenant service requests and customers requests;
  • Upgrade equipment and perform general maintenance tasks, when needed;
  • Supervise and collaborate on special events and various projects, according to schedules;
  • Supervise work done by contractors and report any discrepancies;
  • Perform an extensive building inspection and produce inspection reports;
  • Participate in the emergency response program and become very familiar with it;
  • Collaborate with the Operations Manager to obtain quotes for building repairs and ensure work completion;
  • Monitor and control various building systems;
  • Maintain and repair hinge,  lock, doors mechanism;
  • Carry out plastering and painting work in common areas, repair floor and ceramic tiles and carry out minor carpentry and/or cabinetry work;
  • Repair plumbing equipment and ensure the maintenance and/or minor repair of the centre’s lighting and electrical equipment (replace light bulbs and ballasts);
  • Support the urban centre’s management team during marketing events;
  • Support the maintenance team during the skating rink’s assembly and dismantling operations;
  • Maintain order and cleanness in the maintenance room;
  • Support maintenance team during seasonal decoration installation;
  • Carry out exterior maintenance and make minor repairs to the building;
  • Inspect the security systems regularly (sprinklers, extinguishers, fire alarms, emergency lights); 
  • Upgrade equipment and perform general maintenance tasks, when needed;
  • Support the urban centre’s management team in the absence of managers;
  • Accomplish urgent unforeseen tasks on call and/or outside the shopping centre’s regular business hours when projects must be completed;
  • Be available every other weekend to answer emergency calls.
Key requirements 
  • High School diploma or equivalent, a basic understanding of building trades (carpentry, drywall, electrical, plumbing) ;
  • Minimum of  3 years' related experience, ideally in a urban center or office building;
  • Initiative, ability to multitask and resolve problems independently and carry out duties with minimal supervision;
  • Demonstrated mechanical aptitude;
  • Team player with interpersonal and customer service skills;
  • Basic computer knowledge;
  • Valid Class 5 driver's license. (Local travelling may be required).
