Legal Affairs - Western Region


  • Review and negotiate CRU, big box and anchor leases, office leases and ancillary documents;
  • Assist and mentor paralegals on negotiation and drafting of retail leases, office leases and ancillary documents;
  • Advise general managers, leasing agents, property administration, operations and various other personnel on lease interpretation and various operational matters and issues in relation to shopping centres and office properties;
  • Oversee the maintenance and updating of master and precedent lease forms and related documents;
  • Review and negotiate various contracts and agreements including service, construction, supplier, communication and marketing agreements;
  • Provide advice and consultation to various departments within the Company, including operations, leasing, marketing, communications, insurance and other departments;
  • Manage external counsel in relation to litigation files and other matters for which they are retained and advise and assist internal departments on such matters;
  • Management of tenant default and bankruptcy matters;
  • Provide services and advice in relation to various other matters as required from time to time.


  • Member in good standing of the Ontario Bar Association (membership in the British Columbia Bar would be an asset);
  • Minimum 3 to 6 years of experience practising real estate/leasing law in a firm or company, particularly in negotiating retail and/or office leases;
  • Ability to work in a fast paced environment;
